Connecting with Others (Day 25 of Unstuck)

You’ve heard of people having “A-ha!” moments. Most of my “A-ha!” moments are “Duh!” moments when I remember something of which I have lost sight.

I was reading a blog this morning about the type of training that really makes a difference in people’s lives. Of course, THE determining factor is not the material being read or taught. It isn’t the setting in which teaching takes place. It isn’t even the person delivering the material. THE most important factor is the attitude of the person who is being trained.

A-ha! Duh!

The post I was reading went on to describe the type of behavior of a person who really benefits from training and teaching. The best descriptor is “connecting with others.” They network with everyone in sight, their fellow participants, the teachers, anyone in sight. They do the little things – arriving a little early, keeping their cell phone turned off all day (even breaks), and exchanging contact information.

Connecting with others is an attitude, a mindset. And it is driven by an ancient virtue, humility.

People who connect with other people–swapping ideas, asking for feedback, extending themselves in communication–do so because they believe that they can learn from anyone.

Let me ask you something. Do you really believe you are stuck? Do you really feel the pain of your situation? Do you really believe that you need to move forward and break free of some contraints in order to be who and what you need to be?

Is the answer “yes”? Then prove it to me. Show behaviors on your part that demonstrate it. Let me see where you are making effort to connect with others because in humility you know that you can benefit from those connections.
